My first read for the year was Kristin Hannah's newest novel, Home Front.
This story was extremely powerful and emotional, focusing on a troubled marriage, love and war. Michael and Jolene are distant in their marriage and seem to be living separate lives. Jolene, a Black Hawk pilot for the National Guard, puts all of her energy into caring for her two daughters. Michael, a successful lawyer who just lost his father, buries himself in his work and is rarely home. At what seems to be the brink of their marriage, Jolene is deployed overseas and Michael must learn how to be a father and provide for his girls while trying to rekindle the fire in his marriage. Hannah's detail into the emotions and challenges that military families face during and after war is inspirational and pulls on your heart strings knowing how many soldiers have and still are fighting for our country.
Home Front is an amazing story and I couldn't put it down. Hannah has even signed a movie deal with Chris Columbus to direct and produce the story. Check out the article with the announcement.
For all of the soldiers, veterans and their families, who have fought and are still fighting for our country: thank you. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
